GenQ

What is Gen Q

Gen Q (Generation Queer) is a network of young people, welfare workers, and welfare services who work collectively to provide young same-sex attracted and gender variant people with support.Gen Q meets every Tuesday from 2.00pm-5.00pm at Regional Youth Support Services Inc (Interlynk Lounge).

How do You Identify

What you call yourself, or how you identify can sometimes be very important. It gives you a sense of belonging and knowledge of self. Sometimes how you identify can cause others to misunderstand or, worse, fear who you are. Remember – those that mind don’t matter and those that matter don’t mind.

Why same-sex attraction and gender variance?

We use the term same-sex and gender variant in order to provide support for all young people including those who do not identify with any of the LGBTIQW labels but are still attracted to people of the same-sex or do not adhere to binary rules of gender.

How do some people who are the same-sex attracted and gender variant identify?

LGBTIQW stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, transgender, intersexed and queer. There are many other sub-categories of queerness that people use to describe themselves (e.g. bears, dykes, tinks etc.)

Things to Remember

  • Stay Safe – do not be forced into anything that you are not comfortable doing.
  • You are not alone – Many people in this world are attracted to people of the same sex.
  • Be who you are – There is no need to change yourself to fit a mould. Everyone has their own identity. There is more than just one way to live.
